MicroSteady

The MicroSteady can be configured to handle almost any imaging device from GoPro to the latest DSLR's.

Los Angeles, Ca, Feb 22, 2012 - MicroSteady is pleased to launch its new compact, modular, camera stabilizer. The MicroSteady allows users of nearly any compact digital video device to obtain hand held stability in motion intensive shots. A high quality gimbal based stabilizer, the MicroSteady has a focus on features that make it easy to handle and easy to use, with no sacrifices in performance. The system is configurable with different weights, vertical heights, and camera mounting adapters to allow it to be used with anything from a high tech smartphone, to an ultra light GoPro, and all the way up to video DSLR. It also allows you to adapt nearly any accessory with a standard tripod mount including monitors, audio recorders, and lighting, and soon to be available accessories designed for the MicroSteady. In fact, the only real limit is how much you are comfortable carrying with one hand – and even that limit wont last long!

The MicroSteady is machined in high precision aircraft grade aluminium, with laser etched graphics.

There are two principles at the heart of each MicroSteady. First and foremost is a quality, precision, friction-free three-axis gimbal. This setup has been proven to be the most reliable, robust, and least motion limiting of all the evaluated linkage designs. The second critical element is the modular accessory slot. This slot allows almost anything to be shifted and repositioned, added or removed on the rig. You can add an extended beam for heavier cameras, mounts to fit almost any device, weights to achieve just the right balance and inertia. You can even add accessories to the handle, outside the rig's balanced structure, letting you use phones or tablets, and other control devices, that you can touch while recording.

Balancing any MicroSteady is a fairly uncomplicated affair. The ideal is to balance the rig first, then the camera, to achieve as close to true dynamic balance as possible. While there are many points of adjustment on the MicroSteady, once you understand the relationship between the components, it becomes easy to understand how they all interact. Adjustments during use are also easy and fast. Zooming out a big lens no longer makes it a chore to get back to neutral. Simply undo a quick release on either the camera mount or lower weight and slide it along until balance is achieved, then tighten the quick release. The laser etched scale on all three main beams can help you both keep track of how far you've moved, and also remember settings for each of your lenses, making balancing after a lens change a 10 second operation, not 10 minutes. In addition, the centered nature of the rig and the compact camera mounts allow you to change batteries and memory cards without removing the camera from the rig, further reducing hassles and lost shooting time.

Almost any SmartPhone can be securely mounted to the MicroSteady turning into a professional level video recorder.

The rig itself is CNC machined entirely from aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel in North America. The attention to detail sets a high benchmark for the industry. All future MicroSteady accessories will follow the same design ethos as well, so you can trust that everything from balancing docks, monitors to comfort gel handles and low angle grips will meet the standard you expect from MicroSteady. To launch our first set of rigs and accessories, MicroSteady is utilizing KickStarter.com, allowing customers to pre-order the device, at a cost far lower than retail, and for us to develop tooling to keep things very affordable for both hobbyist and the pro alike. In exchange for the early support, there is a reduced price on the whole range of packages. In addition, there are two even deeper early bird discounts, with complete MicroSteady rigs starting at $299US.
